SWOV director Peter van der Knaap about UN goals: countries need a wake-up call
Countries need a wake-up call to achieve the UN's road safety goals. This applies to middle and low-income countries, but also to a country like the Netherlands. SWOV director Peter van der Knaap stated this in an interview with the UN Road Safety Fund.
According to Van der Knaap, setting goals in every policy domain is important because it can lead to a stronger involvement of governments and institutions to actually take the necessary steps to tackle societal challenges, such as road safety. In the context of the Decade of Action, the UN has set itself the goal of halving the number of fatalities and serious injuries in traffic between 2021 and 2030.
Guided by its Global Road Safety Framework Plan, the UN Road Safety Fund finances projects in low- and middle-income countries to tackle road safety. The Advisory Board of the Road Safety Fund includes two members from Research and Acadamia institutions: SWOV and Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI).
