The paper gives results from theoretical investigations of the comfort of cars leading to the general conclusion that as law a main frequency as possible is beneficial for shock isolation, the region of the own frequency of the unsprung mass however excepted. The Vehicle Research Laboratory investigated, with the aid of an analog computer, the complicated phenomena when the tyres are periodically leaving the road surface. The bouncing tyres are also responsible for rather abrupt changes in concerning stiffness of the tyres. Which can have alarming effects of the handling of the car.
