Distraction from roadside advertising

On Thursday 11 October, a small-scale workshop about distraction from roadside advertising took place. The workshop was organised within the framework of the CEDR-funded project ADVERTS and hosted by Vias institute in Brussels. ADVERTS is coordinated by SWOV, cooperating with TRL and Vias institute.

The ADVERTS project team is developing recommendations about the location, the physical features and the contents of roadside billboards in order to minimise their distracting effect. During the workshop the draft recommendations were presented and discussed with over 20 representatives of national and regional road authorities and their consultants. This resulted in very useful feedback helping us to develop recommendations that are not only scientifically valid but also useful in day-to-day practice.
