Samenvatting

As part of a program of research comparing the relative efficiency of auditory and visual communication, an experiment was designed to determine the limits of speeding up recorded speech without undue sacrifice of intelligibility. A new technique was evolved based on chopping segments from a speech record on a plastic base recording tape. The resulting abbreviated tape was found to provide an increased rate of speech without an attendant frequency increase or other indication of translation of the auditory pattern.
