How can crashes occur and which measures are most suitable to prevent them? Virtually every country in the world struggles with these questions.

The EU project SafetyCube is developing a Decision Support System (DSS) that is to provide insight in the causes of road traffic crashes and support in the identification of the most cost-effective measures for the most important road safety problems.

Research and approach

The projects focuses on risk factors and measures relating to behaviour, infrastructure and vehicles are studied. SWOV is involved in the development of research methodology and analyses in the field of behaviour and infrastructure.

The project also pays attention to the problem of serious road injuries and the social impact of these injuries. SWOV is closely involved in this component and is the leader of this specific work package.

Development Decision Support System

In addition, SWOV is involved in the development of the final Decision Support System and the dissemination of research results through, for example, newsletters. 17 partners from 12 European countries participate in the project. SafetyCube started on May 1, 2015 and has a duration of 3 years.

More information about the project can be found on the SafetyCube website where you can also subscribe to its newsletter.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 633485.
