Organization

Dr. Peter van der Knaap has been SWOV's Managing Director since 1 June 2013. Together with the Board of Supervisors (RvT) he is responsible for the strategy and position of SWOV and ensures that the organization has a solid financial basis.

To guarantee the quality of its research, SWOV uses the input of highly-qualified external experts as members of the Scientific Advisory Board (WAR) and the Program Advisory board (PAR).  SWOV invites experts who are active in various sectors in the field of traffic and road safety as members of these boards.

Organization diagram 31 December 2019

In 2019, a reorganisation occurred at SWOV: the two – relatively large – research departments have divided into four smaller ones.

  • Infrastructure and Traffic
  • Road User Behaviour
  • Human Factors and Vehicle Automation
  • Data and Analysis for Policy

Preferably, SWOV research is multidisciplinary. The research projects are collaborative, combining the various expertise from the four research departments.
