International Awards for SafetyCube & SaferAfrica

December 10th 2019 both EU-projects SafetyCube and SaferAfrica have been awarded with the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award:

Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards recognise outstanding innovation and achievement. In making their recommendations for awards to The Prince, the judges emphasised the need for good quality evidence on which policy makers and planners can implement effective countermeasures as vital for success. The Safety Cube DSS and the Safer Africa Project have made such evidence available to many working in government and on the front line at local level across two continents with the potential to reach even further.

SafetyCube

The SafetyCube project resulted in the SafetyCube Decision Support System (DSS). The DSS is aimed to enable policy-makers and stakeholders to select and implement the most appropriate strategies, measures and cost-effective approaches to reduce casualties of all road user types and all severities in Europe and worldwide.

The SafetyCube project was carried out by seventeen different partners based throughout Europe. SWOV was involved in the development of the Decision Support System and the dissemination of project results.

SaferAfrica

The SaferAfrica project successfully contributed to creating favourable conditions and opportunities for improving road safety and traffic management in African countries, among others by setting up a Dialogue Platform between Africa and Europe.

The SaferAfrica project is a collaboration of seventeen different European partners. SWOV was responsible for Work Package 5 in which road safety management capacity reviews were applied in African countries. This resulted in the development of recommendations covering a wide range of road safety initiatives for including project opportunities for improving road design and vehicle standards in Africa.
