The number of seriously injured cyclists in the Netherlands is increasing: more than half of all serious road injuries are cyclists. More than 80% of these seriously injured cyclists are the result of crashes in which no motorized vehicle is involved.

Cuts to police enforcement across Europe is damaging for road safety. This is the conclusion in two reports published by the European Road Safety Council (ETSC) on June 20th. Within the EU H2020 project SafetyCube, in which SWOV is one of the partners, guidelines are being developed for the determination of the number of serious road injuries. On May 24th, SafetyCube organized a workshop at SWOV in The Hague to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences between experts from different countries.
