Human behaviour in traffic

Dr Silvia Varotto is specialist in the field of empirical research (driving simulator and on-road experiments) and mathematical modelling (advanced choice models and linear mixed-effects models) of driver behaviour with Advanced Driving Assistance Systems. Her main research interests are modelling the decision making of different classes of road users and analysing the impact of cutting-edge technologies on users’ behaviour. Her current research focuses on driver responses to Variable Speed Limits and driver interactions with pedestrians based on naturalistic driving data.

Silvia obtained her MSc in Civil Engineering at University of Trieste in 2013 and  her PhD in Transportation Engineering at Delft University of Technology in 2018 on the thesis Driver behaviour during control transitions between Adaptive Cruise Control and manual driving: empirics and models.
