SWOV workshop: research into road safety policy
On 16 and 17 November 2009, SWOV organized the international workshop Scientific Research on Road Safety Management. This workshop focused on the methodological aspects of ex-post and ex-ante assessments of road safety policy. Approximately 50 experts from all over the world participated in this workshop. On the basis of nine oral presentations they discussed questions like
- How can we determine in a scientifically sound manner whether a road safety plan has had the desired effect?
- How can we make scientifically sound forecasts of the future developments for different policy scenarios?
- How can we determine the effects of quantified targets?

In the course of 2010 a Special Issue of the scientific journal Safety Science will be published. This issue will be edited by SWOV Managing Director Fred Wegman and will contain the papers of the nine presentations and some extra contributions.
