Technical measures can make an important contribution to the improvement of road safety. They are either applied outside or inside the vehicle. A specific set of technical measures are Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). ITS are modern information and communication devices that nowadays are mainly aimed at driving comfort, but are expected to make an important road safety contribution in the future. These systems can, for example, be an important aid to aging motorists who find their driving task more difficult because of physical and functional limitations.
