Road transfer and haulage
The research unit in the survey is the company, together with its vehicle(s). For this, the number of companies has been divided into 52 groups. Each group is a representative sample of the total. The following compilation aspects have been taken into account:
- the geographical distribution of the companies;
- the company size, based on the total number of licensed units;
- the licence types of the companies, i.e. whether or not haulage takes place outside the Benelux.
Every year, each group is asked to fill in a questionnaire about its haulage on public roads within the Benelux for 1 week. The haulage concerns loaded journeys and the loaded and unloaded kilometres involved. All vehicles used for transport are included. By surveying a group of companies each week, the traffic and transport data gathered is spread over the whole year. The weekly results are extrapolated to quarterly and annual figures.
