Wrong-way driving

Is wrong-way driving a large problem?

Wrong-way driving is a situation in which drivers are going in the wrong direction on a lane with one-way traffic or an obligatory driving direction. There has been little research into this problem. It is clear, however, that wrong-way driving mostly occurs on motorways. Although the number of wrong-way crashes is relatively limited, the public feeling about them is strong. This is partly caused by the severity of the outcome of such crashes, and partly because of the possibility of oneself being confronted with a situation which one can do little about. Measures that prevent confusing traffic situations as much as possible are necessary to reduce wrong-way driving.
