Developments

Which applications can we expect?

On the A13 in the direction of Rotterdam and in a trial project in the Utrecht region, DRIPs display up-to-date journey times. Although road users consider this a positive development, the journey times are not yet sufficiently reliable at all times.

Graphic Route Information Panels (GRIPs) are being developed because drivers probably process visual information quicker and remember it more easily. GRIPs can visually display parts of the road network and tailbacks. On a European level efforts have been made to standardize the technique of matrix panels over the last few years. This standard was introduced officially in 2005. Presently, Europe is also drawing up guidelines and agreements for the use of matrix panels.
