Which trends can influence driving behaviour?

More and more services, such as traffic information via the mobile phone, are being offered. The telephone is becoming ever more important in in-car computer applications such as company computer systems. The car is slowly changing into a mobile office. Visual information via the telephone can be bad for road safety because the driver no longer keeps his eyes on the road. The fact that motorists spend ever more time making mobile phone calls, together with the fact that mobile phones are getting ever smaller, can cause problems while driving.

Distractions such as a radio have a smaller influence on driving behaviour than a mobile phone. This is also the case for conversations with passengers, because a passenger is more aware of the traffic situation. The person one is speaking to on the phone may not even realize that his conversation partner is driving a car.
