Speed

Speed lies at the root of road safety. The risk of a fatal crash as well as the risk of severe injury increase with higher speeds (measured on the same road).

There is a variety of reasons why road users exceed the speed limit. The motives can be related to personality characteristics or be a result of road layout, road environment, or the vehicle itself. Speed management measures intervene at all these levels.
