Passenger car

In 2004, there were nearly 7 million cars in the Netherlands. Although the car is a relatively safe means of transport, every year there are many casualties among their drivers and passengers. In 2004, 373 car occupants were killed, which amounts to 46% of all traffic deaths in the Netherlands.

 

Of all vehicle types, the car has seen by far the most safety developments in the past 30 years. The development particularly concerned the crashworthiness, but several other elements and measures also were important.
