Motorcycles

There are relatively many victims among motorcyclists, because of their great vulnerability. Annually there are about 700 severely injured victims and 80 fatalities in the Netherlands. Poor perceptibility of motorcycles is an important problem, but also their sometimes very high speeds.

Important measures are the improvement of their perceptibility, improving motorcyclists’ traffic behaviour and vehicle control in emergency situations, but also stimulating motorvehicle drivers to pay more attention to motorcyclists.

Some organisations encourage using motorcycles to solve the congestion problem. Because of the high crash rate of motorcyclists, this is not sensible from the road safety point of view.
