What plans are there for the implementation of DRL?
At present nine European countries have some kind of compulsory DRL for cars;.a number of countries have plans directed towards compulsion. A gradual introduction of compulsory DRL can help remove opposition.
There are various options for DRL introduction in the EU. For all options the positive effects, expressed in casualty reduction, exceed the costs with the DRL costs of for instance environmental damage or fuel consumption. The option of manual operation of dipped lights in existing cars and new cars have a a compulsory advanced DRL unit, seems to be the most advantageous. At this moment the European Commission is considering proposals for behaviour rules and vehicle requirements
