Mortality: the number of road deaths per 100,000 inhabitants
Within the EU, the Netherlands is in second position, after Malta, as far as the number of road deaths per 100,000 inhabitants is concerned. Sweden and the United Kingdom follow very closely. For the 25 Member States, the graph shows the averages of the three most recent years (usually 2002-2004) and the average of these 25 countries. This road safety ratio does not take into account the volume of motorized traffic in a country.
