Risk
Risk usually refers to the chance of being killed in a road crash per distance travelled. Risk can also be expressed as the number of casualties per population, i.e. deaths + in-patients per population. It is then called mortality. Determining the risk enables us to make comparisons between, for example, countries, modes of transport, or age groups.
