European Conference of Transport Research Institutes
Purpose of the organization
ECTRI is an international non-profit organization, founded in 2003 and registered in France. ECTRI joins the forces of organizations everywhere in Europe who carry out research in the field of transport. The focus is not only on road safety and road transport; ECTRI addresses all transport issues in relation with all modalities. By uniting the most important institutes, ECTRI hopes to stimulate excellent research in the field of transport in Europe.
ECTRI's vision is an efficient, integral European transport system which offers an entirely safe and sustainable mobility for people and freight. To this purpose, ECTRI wants to offer expertise, information and advice, based on scientific knowledge. On the long term ECTRI wishes to create a network of excellent research institutes.
ECTRI has defined six research areas covering the field of transport, one of them being Traffic and transport safety and security. The activities are being defined in three-year Joint Programmes of Activities (JPA). These activities are then defined in so-called transversal and thematic working groups and in task forces. At present eight thematic working groups are active in ECTRI, one with a special focus on road safety: Traffic Safety and Security. Pieter van Vliet of DVS is in charge of this working group.
