Social Attitudes to Road Traffic Risk in Europe
Objective of the project
SARTRE is the acronym of Social Attitudes to Road Traffic Risk in Europe. The study was previously carried out in 1991, 1996 and 2002, with 15, 18 and 23 participating countries respectively. In 2010 there will be 20 participating counties. In each country 1.000 driving licence owners will be interviewed about their opinion and experience in relation with hazard perception, speed, driving under the influence, seatbelt use, unsafe traffic behaviour, enforcement, traffic measures, transport modes and vehicle provisions. In SARTRE 4, motorcyclists and a yet to be specified group of non-motorized road users (cyclists, pedestrians, public transports users) will be queried in addition to drivers.
SARTRE 4 is important for European countries and European road safety policy for, among others, the following reasons:
SWOV contribution
SWOV is a member of the SARTRE 4 consortium. SWOV supports the execution of the survey in the Netherlands and makes a contribution to the analysis and reporting of the results in the SARTRE 4 final deliverable.
