Understanding driver interactions with in-vehicle technologies
Objective of the project
For certain fully developed systems (e.g. navigation systems, advanced cruise control) it is investigated how drivers use them and in which dangerous or, on the other hand, safe behaviour this results. Different research methods are used.
SWOV contribution
SWOV is the leader of workpackage 4: Naturalistic observations. In this workpackage some twenty private cars are equipped with unobtrusive measuring equipment (sensors, mini-cameras) which allow recording behaviour and the environment. This research method has only recently become available because ICT applications for observation and image processing as well as in data storage and analysis have seen large improvements.
