DRiving Under the Influence of alcohol, Drugs and medicines
Objective of the project
The project is performed by a large consortium which, among other things, investigates the (relative) risks of driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, and medicines. The project also investigates methods that can be used for testing on use of drugs.
SWOV contribution
In workpackage 2, Epidemiology, SWOV carries out a large-scale case-control study in the Netherlands to assess the prevalence of alcohol, drugs and medicines in traffic and the extent to which hospitalized road crash casualties are under the influence of these substances. Furthermore, SWOV is the leader of workpackage 3, Enforcement, which investigates the scientific value (validity, reliability) of drug testers, and their practicability for the police.
