High quality research
SWOV carries out high quality fundamental and anticipatory research. The research is guided by how it can be used for practical purposes. Periodically, SWOV's Road Safety Assessment Department makes explorations of future road safety developments and balances regarding past developments. SWOV's knowledge covers the entire range of road safety subjects.
Pioneering and innovative research
SWOV has a vision of promoting road safety and, guided by this vision, participates in the social debate and in policy making. Based on knowledge from scientific research, SWOV gives solicited and unsolicited advice. SWOV's opinions and statements also have a scientific basis.
SWOV disseminates its knowledge actively and makes it readily available, also for educational purposes.
Knowledge dissemination
An essential task is the distribution of knowledge and information to everybody professionally involved with traffic and road safety, both at home and abroad. SWOV has much high quality and useful knowledge available. This knowledge has been acquired from our own research and that carried out by others, both nationally and internationally.
SWOV's main target groups are:
- national politics;
- national, regional, and municipal governments;
- advisory bodies of these governments;
- fellow researchers in the Netherlands and abroad;
- education and knowledge institutes;
- interest groups;
- the media (parliamentary press, newspapers, and professional journals).
