ITE Transportation Safety Award for Fred Wegman

On 10 August 2010, SWOV's Managing Director Professor Fred Wegman received the ITE 2010 Edmund R. Ricker Transportation Safety Award in Vancouver, Canada.

 

Each year, the Institute of Transportation Engineers ITE hands out the award in two categories: individuals and organizations. The individual award is given to a person who is recognized as a leader in the field of traffic safety through his/her safety activities in professional organizations, in the community, or in the performance of traffic engineering.

 

The reason the Award goes to Fred Wegman is his role in the development of the road safety programme Sustainable Safety, which is considered a leading road safety vision by many international road safety professionals.

 

ITE gives the following reasons for handing out the award to Fred Wegman:

The 2010 Edmund R. Ricker Transportation Safety Award is presented to Fred C.M. Wegman in recognition of his global research and implementation of road safety programs and projects, including advancing sustainable safety, safety management and safety performance measures and his international involvement in a multitude of organizations.

The Institute of Transportation Engineers ITE was founded in 1930. It is a community of transportation professionals including, but not limited to transportation engineers, transportation planners, consultants, educators and researchers. The organization has nearly 17,000 members, working in more than 90 countries. The ITE organizes meetings and seminars and brings out many publications on the field of transport.
