Fred Wegman, Managing Director of the Institute of Road Safety Research SWOV has been appointed as part-time professor of Road Safety at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). From 1 March he will begin work at the Department of Transport and Planning of the Faculty of Civil Engineering for one day per week. Fred Wegman will continue his work as managing director at SWOV.

In the professorate Wegman will be occupied with education and research. The research will be aimed at acquiring more knowledge about the relations between the design of our road traffic facilities, traffic, traffic behaviour and road safety. This will be guided by the Sustainable Safety vision which was developed by SWOV. Wegman also intends to focus on the decision making about infrastructure and how to enable road safety concerns playing a more transparent role in the decision making.

In the research Wegman will aim at further cooperation within the Department of Transport & Planning and with others who are occupied with research in the field of traffic and transport at TU Delft. Wegman will tune the research at TU Delft to SWOV's research programme Roads and Traffic. Furthermore, he intends to initiate extended cooperation with both national and international partners.
